Infosys nos fail to cheer markets

Markets slipped today on investor"s worries that the recent rally can be cut short soon. Better-than-expected results from IT giant, Infosys, also could not cheer up the market. - Sensex at day"s low - Sensex extends losses - Sensex still in red; Tata Motors tumbles 5% - Sensex slips into red after +ve start - RIL bonus fails to cheer Sensex - Bull run may go bust in 2 months: Jhunjhunwala The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 72 points at 16,916 and went to a high of 16,963. The index, however, slipped on profit taking and touched a low of 16,607 - down 356 points from the day"s high. The Sensex has finally ended down 201 points at 16,643. The Nifty has ended 57 points at 4,945. The market breadth was negative. Out of 2,831 shares traded, 1,792 declined while 968 advanced. INDEX SHAKERS... Tata Motors slumped 6.5% to Rs 548. Sterlite shed 3.5% at Rs 793. Reliance Infrastructure dropped 3% to Rs 1,292. Grasim, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Jaiprakash Associates, SBI, ICICI Bank, BHEL and HDFC slipped around 2.5% each. Infosys slipped 1.4% to Rs 2,178 in spite of a strong result. Other IT stocks - TCS and Wipro dragged 2% each. Hero Honda, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro and Reliance are the other losers in the Sensex today. ...AND MOVERS Bharti Airtel gained 2.5% at Rs 343. ONGC and Reliance Communications added 1.4% each to Rs 1,220 and Rs 249, respectively.
